Netflix Announces Sequel to The Platform

Netflix

Trigger Warning

Netflix revealed the first stills from The Platform 2. This will be the sequel to the 2019 dystopian film, The Platform.

The streaming service took to X on April 18 to post images from the upcoming sequel. They feature Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerianm, both playing unidentified inmates. With red tints and harrowing facial expressions, these photos indicate that The Platform 2 will be just as high-stakes and disturbing as the original.

According to Collider, plot details are being kept under wraps. However, as a continuation of The Platform, this film will give viewers another peek into the director’s view of society.

Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia hinted at some of the differences between The Platform 2 and its flagship film. He discussed with Netflix, “We started production of the film full of enthusiasm, eager to extend the universe of The Platform with a plot full of surprises, obstacles, new characters…and old friends. We want this second installment to be an exciting physical journey that allows us to go into the darkness, into that place where we are afraid to look.”

The story of The Platform follows a man who spends six months in a tower prison in exchange for a college degree. There’s only one cell per floor with two inmates each. They receive food via “the platform,” which stops for two minutes on each floor. Inmates closer to the top of the tower get access to more food, whereas those near the bottom are left with scraps. The man soon realizes the devastating effects the meal system inflicts on his fellow inmates, and himself.

Leading up to The Platform 2, you can watch the first one on Netflix. You can also watch the trailer for the first film below.
