Netflix Series ‘Ginny and Georgia’ Renewed for Second Season
More than 52 million people watched the first season of Ginny and Georgia, Netflix announced through video that the popular series has been renewed for a second season. The dramedy stars Brianne Howey (Georgia) and Antonia Gentry (Ginny) as they navigate their new life in an affluent Massachusetts town. Season 1 ended on quite a cliffhanger, so not much else is known about season 2 other than we will be getting one.

Season 1 introduced us to mother-daughter duo Ginny and Georgia, who finally settle down in a small town in Massachusetts. Ginny is a 15-year-old high school student, and remains outspoken about growing up half-black, being a young woman, and having less opportunities than her peers. The progressive show tackles these topics along with sex, drugs, and mental health.
The young adult show grapples with the relationship between a single mother and her daughter. Much like Gilmore Girls, which the series has been compared to on countless occasions, Ginny and Georgia centralizes on a mother’s will to protect her children.

Can’t wait for 2nd season 🤧#GinnyAndGeorgia pic.twitter.com/e0QfMDxKPw
Despite relevant and timely topics, some thought that Netflix wouldn’t renew Ginny and Georgia or another season. At the start of International Women’s Month this March, Taylor Swift and viewers were angered by a conversation had between Ginny and Georgia. Swift became the punchline of a joke made at the expense of her dating life.
Ginny and Georgia doesn’t deserved to be cancelled because Taylor Swift called it out. The context of that scene very much put Ginny as wrong, and while it was misogynistic, that’s literally what it was calling out. #ginnyandgeorgia #netflix pic.twitter.com/jaWCFwRq84

During an interview with Deadline, Debra J. Fischer and Sarah Lampert, the two women who worked hard to lead an all-female creative team for season 1 stated, “We are so appreciative of the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny & Georgia. We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for season two,”.
With the announcement, Fans are most excited to see their favorite characters again.

Although, it is still unknown when the new season will begin filming, or what the plot will be. Fans are certain that Ginny and Georgia will continue to turn heads and make headlines for the foreseeable future.
