The Weeknd Drops Trailer for New HBO Series The Idol
Get ready for the “sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.” The Weeknd recently dropped the trailer for his new HBO series The Idol, starring Tesfaye himself and Lily-Rose Depp.
Just hours before his New York show on the “After Hours Til Dawn” tour, the singer tweeted that he had a special announcement up his sleeve.

Immediately fans spewed their predictions from music videos to, well, new music, but fans were ecstatic to find out that what they were about to witness was the spicy trailer to the highly-anticipated series.

The opening title cards read, “From the sick & twisted minds of the creator of Euphoria Sam Levinson, and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye.” From then on, we see a montage of fast-paced scenes encapsulating the dark Hollywood feel we should expect from the series.
In the middle of the trailer, Tesfaye’s character asks Depp’s character why doesn’t she just be herself, to which she replies, “Because there’s nothing about me that’s relatable.” Afterward, we see another short montage before the trailer closes with Tesfaye’s character asking Depp’s character if she trusts him; she simply replies, “not really,” and we’re left with a “Coming Soon” title card.
From what we know so far, The Idol is set deep in the music industry and will focus on Tesfaye’s character, a self-help guru and modern-day cult leader who gets into a complicated relationship with a rising pop star. While the trailer doesn’t reveal many new details, it confirms that BLACKPINK’s Jennie will appear at some point during the season.
Fans are excited to see Tesfaye’s acting chops, and by the looks of this trailer, they don’t disappoint. Combining the stellar cast with Sam Levinson’s recent success, The Idol is shaping up to be an exceptional series.
