Brandi Carlile was nominated in a whopping seven categories at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Americana Performance, Best Americana Roots Song, Best Americana Album, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance.

The track “Broken Horses” received two Grammy wins for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. Often a male-dominated genre, Carlile ended up beating out Bryan Adams (“So Happy It Hurts”), Beck (“Old Man”), The Black Keys (“Wild Child”), Idles (“Crawl!”), Ozzy Osbourne feat. Jeff Beck (“Patient Number 9”), and Turnstile (“Holiday”).

In addition, the category of Best Rock Song included the Red Hot Chili Peppers (“Black Summer”), Turnstile (“Blackout”), The War on Drugs (“Harmonia’s Dream”), and Ozzy Osbourne feat. Jeff Beck (“Patient Number 9”).

Carlile, an early two-time winner of the night, went on to perform on stage. Award shows always prove to be a family affair for the singer, as her family introduced her. Her wife, Catherine Carlile, and daughters Evangeline and Elijah took the stage.

Her wife began, “Millions of viewers watching tonight fell in love with this next performer four years ago when she took the Grammys stage for the first time and delivered one of the most iconic performances in Grammy history. I was lucky enough to marry her more than a decade ago, so I was way ahead of you.”

Carlile’s wife is referring to the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019, where Carlile had been the most nominated female that year, winning three Grammys that night. Her hit single, “The Joke,” won Best American Roots Song and Performance. She also delivered a powerful performance of “The Joke.”

Carlile and her band comprised of twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth performed a rocking rendition of “Broken Horses.” The singer proved that she is here to stay in the rock category for a long time.

After an incredible performance, Carlile took home her final award of the night: Best Americana Album. This genre of music means a lot more to her. She stated in a past Instagram post, “Americana/American Roots music represents my community, my family, my friends, and my beautiful island of misfits. I am also proud that it represents a great number of people actively WORKING to platform marginalized people – LGBTQIA, women, and people of color (who, of course, actually built the genre).”

Her record, In These Silent Days, was victorious over Things Happen That Way (Dr. John), Good to Be… (Keb’ Mo’), Raise the Roof (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss), and Just Like That… (Bonnie Raitt).

Congratulations to Brandi Carlile on an amazing Grammys night. Carlile will serve as a special guest at P!nk’s upcoming Summer Carnival 2023 tour.
