Challengers Is Here With New Intense Trailer

Luca Guadagnino’s romantic sports drama, Challengers, unveiled its first trailer. The film stars Zendaya (Dune: Part Two), Mike Faist (West Side Story), and Josh O’Connor (Emma).

Challengers released its sultry new trailer on Tuesday, June 20. The film follows former tennis star-turned-coach, Tashi Donaldson (Zendaya). Her husband, Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) is a tennis champion on a losing streak.

Tashi sets up a match against washed-up player Patrick (Josh O’Connor) to help get her husband back on track. Not coincidentally, Patrick is her husband’s former best friend and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend. This puts Zendaya’s character in the middle of a messy love triangle.

An official synopsis of the film reads, “Challengers follows three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court.”

Guadagnino revealed that Zendaya trained for three months with pro tennis coach and former player Brad Gilbert. Alongside training, Gilbert was also a consultant for the film.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed Challengers‘ score. They also composed Guadagnino’s last film, Bones and All.

Zendaya continues to be one of the most in-demand actors working today. She is reprising her role in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two as Chani. Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet, and Florence Pugh will join her in production.

In addition to her busy schedule, the Euphoria actress recently made history as the first Black woman to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series twice.

Mike Faist made waves in the industry following his role as Riff in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake. Josh O’Connor is most notably known for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown. He won an Emmy for his performance.

Challengers is slated for theatrical release on September 15, 2023. The trailer is available to watch below.
