Warner Brothers Pictures dropped the first official trailer for the anticipated movie Wonka with Timothée Chamalet as the lead. The film serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl’s famous 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Wonka takes place in Willy Wonka’s early adventures in his life and follows the journey of how he became a chocolatier. Who better to star as the lead than Chamalet?

Chamalet’s roles span across all genres. In the Sci-fi film, Dune, he takes on the role of hero Paul Atreides; in Lady Bird, he was cast as the rule-breaking teenager, Kyle Scheible; in Little Women, he portrayed Theodore “Laurie” Laurence; and in The French Dispatch, Chalamet acted as Zeffirelli, the leader of a youth revolution.

Taking on Willy Wonka is no challenge for the young actor.

When Chamalet spoke to Vogue about his role, he stated: “In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”

He also expressed his excitement to transform into the “optimistic, youthful, [and] hopeful” Wonka lead, hoping to bring some lightness to the big screen.
