Doctor Who is back this May. BBC and Disney+ have released a new trailer for the sci-fi series’ upcoming fourteenth season.

On March 22, viewers got a first look at Doctor Who’s fourteenth season. The latest installment is set to star Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.

The trailer teases many new adventures fans can expect from the time-traveling duo. Some of these include a pre-historic Earth, an apocalyptic London, and a regency era straight out of Netflix, with Gibson’s character even stating “Oh my Bridgerton.”

As the pair navigate a landscape full of dinosaurs, the series makes a reference to the “Butterfly Effect,” a classic theory about the consequences of time travel. Ruby asks, “What if I change history by stepping on a butterfly?” before promptly doing so.

Fans were delighted to hear David Bowie’s song “Changes” in the background of the trailer.

The video also showcases a fresh look for the Tardis with the arrival of the Sex Education star as The Doctor. A new design usually accompanies each change of casting, with this era’s Tardis featuring a more minimalistic version reminiscent of the original 1963 program.

Additionally, the trailer uses a new tagline for the upcoming season, “Everything is possible,” which the official accounts for the series also used in its promotion.

In addition to Gatwa and Gibson, many other exciting appearances are set for the new season. Fans get a glimpse at the much-anticipated return of Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, who formerly headed U.N.I.T. in the series’ previous seasons. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon will also appear in the new season as a mysterious reoccurring antagonist. Furthermore, Hamilton’s Jonathan Groff will guest star in an episode of the adventure-packed drama.

Gatwa’s portrayal of The Doctor picks up after the 2023 Holiday Specials. The three episodes saw the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate to their much-beloved roles as The Doctor and Donna Noble. Yasmin Finney also made her debut as Rose Noble, Donna’s daughter. The Heartstopper actress will reprise the role in the upcoming season.

Doctor Who will return on May 10 on Disney+. Until then, fans can watch the trailer below.
